How to ask the AI Assistant decent questions?

A good question is all it takes. The clearer and more specific your question, the more relevant the AI Assistant's answer will be. Below are some tips to help you get the most out of your search:

Infgraphic - what works well and less well
Wat werkt goed:
Formuleer een duidelijke en specifieke vraag. Gebruik vaktaal of relevante termen. Houd je vraag beknopt en to the point. Geen lange inleidingen of beleefdheidsformules nodig. Wat werkt minder goed:
Losse trefwoorden zonder context; vage of te brede termen; vervolgvragen die verwijzen naar een eerder antwoord

💡Extra tip: If you don't get the answer you want right away, try rephrasing your question or making it more specific, and ask it again. Small adjustments can make a big difference in the quality of the answer. See also the topic “What if you are not satisfied with the answer?”.

Which languages are available to search?

You can ask questions in Dutch, English, French, German, or other languages. The AI Assistant mainly searches English-language sources, but combines these with publications in other languages where possible. The answer will automatically appear in the language in which you asked the question.

⚠️ Please note : language recognition is not always consistent. Even if you use a different language, the answer may appear (partly) in English.

How to use filters?

Want to refine your search results? Use the filter button next to the search box. This allows you to search more specifically and get relevant information faster.

You can filter on:
  • Resource Type : journal articles or books
  • Peer-reviewed: only scientific publications that have been reviewed by experts
  • Available online: sources of which you can immediately read or download the full text
  • Period: for example, only publications from the last 5 years
💡Good to know: your filters remain active until you disable them yourself. This allows you to control what you see and what you don't see..

What can't the AI Assistant do (yet)?

Although the Limo AI Assistant can already assist you with your search query, there are still some limitations that you should take into account:

Currently not supported (but in development):
  • Follow-up questions: Each question is processed separately. This means you cannot ask follow-up questions based on a previous answer. (We are working on this!)
  • Local sources: The assistant mainly searches digital databases. Books in (campus) libraries or local publications are not currently included.
These limitations are being actively addressed. Keep an eye out for future updates - searching with Limo AI is becoming smarter and more user-friendly!

What if you are not satisfied with the answer?

Try this:

  • Adjust your search query. Make it more specific or rephrase it.
💡Tip: click in the search bar and press the up arrow on your keyboard to retrieve your previous search query. Adjust it and run it again.

  • Check out the related research questions. You may find a question with better phrasing or an interesting search term that you hadn't considered yet.Screenshot Related questions

  • Depending on the language in which you ask your question, the answer and the sources you receive may differ.

  • Click on “Try again.” Large language models such as GPT-4.1 can give different answers to the same question, even at the same time. A new attempt may therefore yield a different result - although this only happens with a minority of search queries. In most cases, the answer remains the same.

  • Use “View all results in Limo”. This allows you to search more broadly in the entire catalog and access more sources, incl. physical publications.

  • Finally, the AI Assistant does not provide a high-quality answer for every search query . It works best for topics that have been widely published in online journals. Therefore, evaluate whether the AI Assistant is the right tool for your search query.
