How does the AI assistant create
the
overview of sources?
- The Assistant uses a large language
model or Large Language Model (LLM) to convert your question into a
search query for Limo.
- The Asistant scans a large
subcollection of Limo consisting
of online articles and e-books.
- The tool uses the abstracts of 5
search results to create an
“Overview of sources” with a brief
explanation
- The numbers in the answer link to the
source from which the information
was extracted.
⚠️ Please note:
Do not blindly trust the AI-generated overview. Sometimes, the AI links sources to the search query whose content does not actually match the subject. Before using the overview, first check whether the sources displayed are relevant to your subject.
Also take into account the comments in the topic: ‘What can and can't you use the AI Assistant for? ’.

Which sources are used for the
answer?
- The assistant searches a database of billions of online articles, e-books,
theses, and reports. The vast
majority of these sources are in
English.
- However, the following sources are not
used to create the overview:
- Commercial databases from publishers
that did not give permission to be
used by AI, such as Elsevier
(including ScienceDirect)
- Physical material such as printed
books and magazines, maps, objects,
etc
- Bachelor's and master's theses from
the KU Leuven Association
- A number of sources from Lirias, the
repository of publications from the KU
Leuven Association. These are
documents that are not freely
available and cannot be accessed via
the publisher's website.
- News reports
- Sources without abstracts, or with
very short descriptions
⚠️ Please note:
- Not
all sources are accessible
within your institution. If you
only want to see sources in the
overview that you have access to,
use the “Available online”
filter.
- A
number of records (including
some publications from Lirias) are
incorrectly inaccessible. A
solution for this is in the
works.
